February 10 Meditation (Marco Bouchard, Ben Swinden)

It’s my birthday!

Today’s Meditation is by Marco Bouchard and Ben Swinden. The intro text is short:

Take the next few minutes to consider life as a journey where identity is a series of negotiated skins, many only visible to you. Acknowledge their origins in inheritance, invention, biology, accident and mutualism.

I used to identify with butterflies, because I am someone who has gone through tremendous changes over the course of my life. I don’t feel particularly strongly about butterflies anymore, but my relatives still sometimes buy me presents with butterflies on, I suppose because they don’t think that I’ve changed that much.

In today’s Meditation, you change skins by flying into a globe and out again. Wherever you come out determines what you now are.

Snakes shed their skins so that they can grow. But where they cast off their old exteriors all at once, we do it more gradually.

I turned 29 today.
