I love the ritual of tea. I was thinking about this a couple of days ago, actually, when I had chores to run but I had just made a cup. Some people down whole mugs when they’re still piping hot, but not me. For me, a cup of tea is an excuse to slow down and stay in one place for a while.
Today’s Meditation, from Adam Le Doux, takes place in the amount of time it takes to boil a kettle. You begin, as him, gazing from a window. Move, and the view switches to show the inside of the apartment. I like the way the camera rotates as you move around the cosy space, maybe pausing to stroke the cat before heading into the kitchen to put the kettle on. Ah, the gentle burble of water becoming ready for tea. It’s a lovely backdrop for a game, especially one as short and sweet as this. Sit on the sofa to play Wind Waker with Adam’s partner, watch them in close-up, and then hear the kettle squeal its readiness. As soon as you pick up the kettle, the game ends. Lovely.
