I’ve never really had a regular job.
I’ve worked since I was 16, but throughout education it was always part time, and after university I started to freelance alongside the part-time job, and now I freelance for multiple places: the Guardian, The Gadget Show, etc. I’ve gone through periods of working a lot, but I’ve never had a traditional 9 to 5 where I commute to the same place every weekday.
So although I have a lot of freedom in my working life, I don’t really know what it’s like to leap into that from a much more constrained situation. But according to today’s Meditation, it feels like being a pawn on a chessboard, moving one square at a time, until one day you break out into the natural world, and then you jump off a cliff.
